History of Plano West
Plano West is named after its location on the west side of the city of Plano.
Plano West opened in the fall of 1999 in the renovated former Shepton High School facility.

Curriculum
Electrical Enginneering Academy
The Electrical Engineering Academy is a unique Plano ISD program that will begin in 2026 and will provides a focused academic experience in engineering for high school students.
Students will begin the academy at Jasper High School in 9th grade and then continue the program at Plano West Senior High School in 11th grade, allowing a smooth transition through the upper grades. Starting in their junior year, students earn high school and college credits at the same time, supported by instruction from college-credentialed faculty from East Texas A&M University. Through this partnership, participants can earn up to 53 college credit hours, including 6 hours specifically in electrical engineering, giving them a strong head start on postsecondary studies and careers in engineering fields.
